Float Pool Registered Nurse I- FT/Days

Join our Float Pool as a Registered Nurse I and gain experience across multiple acute care units. In this full-time position, you will float between Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, and Behavioral Health units, providing comprehensive patient-centered care while working closely with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for direct patient care delivery, clinical assessments, medication administration, patient education, and coordination of care to achieve desired patient outcomes.

Schedule

• Full-time position: 3 shifts per week
• 12-hour shifts with paid overtime after 8 hours
• Weekend availability required

Compensation

• Base rate: $44.28 – $65.10 per hour
• Average rate with overtime: $51.66 – $75.95 per hour
• Sign-on/Retention Bonus: $10,000 (full-time only)

Responsibilities

• Float to assigned units (Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, and/or Behavioral Health) based on competency and staffing needs
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans using the nursing process (ADPIE)
• Obtain and record vital signs, monitor patients using appropriate equipment, and report adverse reactions to medications
• Change dressings, insert catheters, and start intravenous lines
• Prepare and administer medications according to State Board of Nursing standards and facility policies
• Conduct wound assessments, develop wound care plans, and apply appropriate dressings and therapies including negative pressure wound therapy and bioengineered skin substitutes
• Monitor wound progression and educate patients on wound care techniques and self-management
• For Telemetry: Monitor EKG output, record vital signs including oxygen levels and breathing patterns, and inform physicians of changes
• For PACU: Assess and evaluate pre- and post-operative patients, provide discharge instructions, and maintain patient records
• Maintain and update patient files, medical charts, and health records in the electronic medical record system
• Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, post-surgery care, medications, and treatment instructions
• Use SBAR communication when reporting to physicians and other healthcare team members
• Collaborate across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharges, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support
• Triage patients appropriately using the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) system
• Use AIDET principles (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) in all patient and family interactions
• Perform daily equipment checks including monitors, code equipment, crash carts, and oxygen cylinders
• Stock assigned rooms and maintain clean work areas
• Arrive prepared to receive patient report on time
• Speak up to stop the line and escalate potential safety events
• Abide by HIPAA regulations and patient rights policies
• Attend and complete monthly, annual, and assigned training
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Minimum one year of experience in a float pool unit in the specialty applied for
• Active RN license
• AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• AHA BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• Competency to float to Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, and/or Behavioral Health units
• In-depth knowledge of best practices in the area/specialty applied for
• Critical thinking skills and strong interpersonal communication abilities
• Ability to read and comprehend written instructions
• Strong organizational skills and ability to follow verbal instructions
• Computer skills
• Adaptability to changing departments, work schedules, and patient needs
• Capacity to work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with team members

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of experience in a float pool unit
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing or higher degree in Nursing
• MAB Tier II certification
• NIH Stroke Scale certification
• Knowledge of latest wound care research and clinical practice guidelines
