This is a Float Pool Registered Nurse 3 position at Women & Children's Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia. As an RN3, you will demonstrate advanced clinical skills, manage complex patients, and serve as a clinical leader and role model for nursing staff. You will work across multiple units as part of the float pool, providing direct patient care to women and children while supporting the professional development of other nursing staff members.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate consistent application of the nursing process in daily practice and manage complex patient cases
  • Provide direct patient care with advanced clinical skills and competency
  • Identify personal learning needs and assist other staff members in identifying and addressing their learning needs
  • Perform as an effective group leader and evaluate group process at the unit level
  • Assist nursing peers in developing an appreciation of nursing research and utilize research findings to improve nursing care and patient outcomes
  • Recognize the need for change in nursing practice and initiate change processes on assigned units
  • Proactively identify potential legal and ethical issues and implement strategies to prevent problems
  • Maintain and document all applicable required education
  • Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations
  • Comply with attendance policy
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement activities
  • Perform work in a cost-effective manner
  • Work in accordance with departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations
  • Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures

Clinical Setting

Women & Children's Hospital, Charleston, West Virginia. As a float pool nurse, you will work across multiple units and must possess or obtain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment, and care for the identified patient ages served by the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, required within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to obtain and interpret patient information in terms of patient needs
  • Knowledge of growth and development
  • Understanding of the range of treatment needed by patients
  • Competency validation to independently perform tasks and duties as specified in the job description and unit-specific competency checklist

Schedule

  • Full-time regular position (1.0 FTE)
  • Varies by unit assignment
  • Includes overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations as needed
