Family Nurse Practitioner

The Family Nurse Practitioner provides primary and urgent patient care in ambulatory clinic settings serving the Indian Community across multiple Southern California locations. This position manages health problems and coordinates health care for patients of all ages in accordance with federal regulations, the California Nurse Practice Act, and California Board of Registered Nursing standards. The Family Nurse Practitioner functions as an integral member of a multidisciplinary health care team including physicians, nurses, medical assistants, pharmacy, laboratory, dental, eye care, behavioral health, and clerical staff.

Clinical Setting

The position is based at Morongo Indian Health Clinic (11555 ½ Potrero, Banning, CA 92220) with travel required to other RSBCIHI locations including San Manuel Indian Health Clinic, Soboba Indian Health Clinic, Pechanga Indian Health Clinic, Santa Rosa Indian Health Clinic, Cahuilla Indian Health Clinic, and Torres Martinez Indian Clinic.

Responsibilities

• Perform age-appropriate history and physical assessments for children and adults, demonstrating competence in specialized procedures within the scope of clinical privileges
• Interpret patient historical, physical examination, and diagnostic and therapeutic test data to arrive at accurate diagnoses
• Order laboratory and radiology studies when necessary to confirm diagnosis or rule out differential diagnoses
• Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities, utilizing the medication formulary
• Monitor the effectiveness of interventions and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members through appropriate referrals
• Implement RSBCIHI health care objectives including primary care, health promotion, and disease prevention
• Adhere to insurance company requirements to ensure appropriate reimbursement for services rendered
• Function as an effective member of the health care team, communicating and collaborating with all team members to provide efficient and high-quality care
• Set the pace for efficient patient flow through the clinic
• Participate in Medical Department staff meetings and clinic site meetings
• Implement corrective actions as identified during peer review activities
• Complete all medication refills and patient care in a timely manner
• Complete and submit SOAP note encounter documentation within 24 hours of evaluating a patient

Patient Care Standards

• Allocate 30 minutes for routine care of patients with chronic illnesses and minor acute problems, rescheduling patients for longer visits when appropriate
• Allocate 60 minutes for annual preventive health examinations and new patient visits
• Allocate 30 minutes for disability exams, procedures, acute, and chronic care appointments
• Average 12-18 primary care patient visits per 8-hour shift

Required Qualifications

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited School of Nursing
• Completion of an accredited Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program
• Current and unrestricted California Registered Nurse License
• Current California Nurse Practitioner License
• Current California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number
• Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Controlled Substance Registration Certificate
• Current National Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner
• Current CPR (BLS Provider) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (certification may be obtained prior to orientation)
• Valid California Driver's License with a safe driving record (DMV record required)
• Must be insurable by the program's insurance carrier
• Ability to work with the Indian Community and sensitivity to Indian culture and its needs
• Awareness and appreciation for the diversity of Native American cultural and spiritual values

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum two years of experience in an ambulatory care patient setting

Physical Demands

The position is carried out in a medical clinic setting with frequent exposure to contagious diseases and some infrequent exposure to unstable and/or hostile patients. Walking and standing are frequent for long periods of time. Some sitting and lifting are required. The incumbent will be required to assist patients who are frail or disabled. Driving will be required between clinics.

Schedule and Employment Type

Exempt, full-time position with a minimum of 40 hours per week. Evening and weekend availability required as needed.

Compensation

$67.31–$76.92 per hour ($140,000–$160,000 annually, depending on experience and internal equity)
