Family Nurse Practitioner (Outpatient), Part-Time - Delano

Adventist Health Delano is seeking a Family Nurse Practitioner to provide expert clinical care in an outpatient setting. This part-time position offers the opportunity to work in a 156-bed medical center serving 10 rural Central California communities with comprehensive primary and specialty care services.

Clinical Setting

Adventist Health Delano is a full-service community and regional teaching hospital located in Delano, the second-largest city in Kern County. The facility has been focused on growth and technological expertise since 1974.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients, employees, and family members to construct comprehensive medical histories
• Perform initial and periodic physical examinations
• Evaluate patient behavior and explore patient interpretation of health needs
• Work under the scope of practice of a nurse practitioner and as an agent of the physician
• Provide appropriate patient education, explaining diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis
• Secure informed consent for procedures
• Instruct patients about health maintenance and preventive care
• Provide patient education handouts and make referrals to health education classes when available
• Directly perform or order appropriate diagnostic studies and interpret results
• Provide continuity of care by discussing completion of treatment plans and administration of medications and injections
• Follow up on acute and chronic problems and significant abnormal test results
• Maintain adequate, concise, legible, and up-to-date documentation of patient care, including problem medical and medication records, drug allergies, lab orders, subjective and objective data, diagnostic procedures, patient education, and treatment
• Provide treatment including administering medications, vaccines, and performing procedures
• Write orders to increase, decrease, or change medications subject to checking and medical consultation as indicated
• Use cost-containment measures including prescribing only clinically necessary medications, prescribing generic medications when appropriate, making only clinically necessary referrals, and ordering only clinically necessary diagnostic procedures
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
• Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice
• Nurse Practitioner (NP) licensure in the state of practice
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor per Adventist Health policy
• AHA-BLS, ARC-BLS, AHA-CPR, or ARC-CPR certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of relevant clinical experience
