Marathon Health is seeking a Family Nurse Practitioner with occupational health expertise to provide primary care and occupational medicine services at our Newport News, VA location. You will practice relationship-based medicine at the top of your license, offering preventive care, chronic disease management, and health education to patients in a value-based model that prioritizes health outcomes over patient volume.
Clinical Setting
Marathon Health operates nationwide onsite, nearsite, and network health centers with virtual primary care options. This role emphasizes smaller patient panels, longer appointment times (20 to 60 minutes), and a strong focus on prevention and wellness with fewer administrative and insurance-related tasks.
Responsibilities
- Perform occupational health screenings and appointments, providing medical care for workplace injuries and illnesses
- Interpret spirometry for acceptable trials and results
- Provide initial interpretation of resting EKG
- Evaluate and treat work injuries, including assessment of workplace exposures, musculoskeletal injuries, suturing, and removal of foreign objects from the eye or body
- Coordinate with employers regarding illness and injury policies and workers' compensation insurance companies for case management of work injuries
- Identify and recommend work-related titers and vaccinations
- Conduct medical examinations and fitness-for-duty assessments, including DOT examinations for drivers, to determine ability to perform assigned job tasks
- Transmit medical information to workers' compensation and disability claims as appropriate and authorized
- Monitor health and assess how the work environment affects employee health and well-being
- Collaborate with client managers to develop or enhance work tasks, identify workplace hazards, recommend protective equipment measures, and develop prevention and treatment plans
- Provide guidance to employers regarding local and national health and safety regulations
- Partner with client managers in developing and implementing workplace health and safety policies and procedures
- Conduct workplace assessments to identify potential hazards that may cause injury or illness
Required Qualifications
- Active nurse practitioner license with current ANCC or AANP board certification
- CPR/BLS certification required at time of start date
- Two or more years of experience in internal medicine or family/general practice
- Federal DEA number preferred; may be required for full prescribing ability
Preferred Qualifications
- Independent practice provider status, where applicable per state regulation

- Two or more years of experience in occupational medicine
- Independent family practice experience including routine wellness care, chronic care management, and urgent visits
Compensation and Benefits
Pay Range: $120,000 - $160,000 per year (actual offer may vary based on geographic location, years of experience, and skill level)

Eligibility for benefits is based on 24 hours per week.
