Experienced RN – Operating Room 8a – 6:30p, vary start

Join Cleveland Clinic Akron General's Operating Room as an Experienced Registered Nurse. You will deliver exceptional care throughout the patient care journey, working collaboratively with a dedicated surgical team to provide world-class patient-centered care. In this role, you will interact directly with patients and families, offering healthcare education and support while assisting in all aspects of surgical patient care.

Clinical Setting

Akron General's Operating Room department serves multiple surgical service lines. As an RN, you will scrub and circulate through each service line during a 6-month orientation period and have the opportunity to complete extra rotations on specialty call teams to gain proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care and assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for surgical patients
• Complete ongoing assessments, recognize changes in patient condition, and respond appropriately
• Develop and update care goals, involve patients and families in care planning, coordinate the interdisciplinary plan of care, and serve as a patient advocate
• Administer treatments and medications, and maintain accurate documentation
• Participate in ongoing interdisciplinary evaluation of patient and family outcomes and contribute to quality improvement processes
• Delegate tasks and assignments, serve as a resource person, role model, and mentor to team members
• Pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications
• Plan for patient care utilizing patient-specific information and preference sheets
• Assist in collecting and preparing equipment, instruments, sutures, and implants
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team
• Identify patients and confirm that surgical site identification has been performed without discrepancy
• Timely respond to on-call pages
• Maintain the room schedule
• Ensure surgical specimens are handled correctly by accurate identification

Schedule

This position works days from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with on-call requirements. The position may require an earlier or later start time based on the needs of the department.

Required Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (ADN or BSN program)
• Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Successfully complete mandatory clinical competencies annually

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements

• Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination
• Standing and walking for extended periods of time
• Corrected vision and hearing to normal range
• Working under stressful conditions and irregular hours
• Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids
• Medium work capacity: exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects
• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
