Léman Manhattan seeks an Early Childhood/Lower School Nurse to provide comprehensive health services for students in Pre-K through Grade 5 at an independent International Baccalaureate school in Lower Manhattan. This role is central to the school's commitment to student wellness and safety, requiring a licensed nurse to manage daily health screenings, provide direct care for injuries and acute illness, and serve as a health resource for students, families, and staff.
Clinical Setting
Léman Manhattan is an independent school serving students from 12 months through Grade 12, including a boarding program. The Early Childhood/Lower School division encompasses Pre-K through Grade 5. You will work within a collaborative, inclusive learning community that emphasizes diversity, equity, and global perspective.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily health screenings for all students upon school entry
- Provide direct care during the school day to students from Pre-K through Grade 5 for injuries and acute illness
- Monitor children on continuous insulin infusion pumps and manage long-term care for students with special health care needs
- Conduct lice checks as needed
- Provide clear guidance to students, families, and staff regarding management and follow-up for all health matters
- Advise school leadership, staff, and the community regarding quarantine and isolation requirements following positive cases, exposure, or travel
- Collaborate closely with administration and participate in the Student Support Team (SST)
- Communicate clearly and proactively with parents, faculty, and staff on student illnesses
- Facilitate New York State mandated immunization and communicable disease control requirements
- Serve as a health resource and educator in the health instruction curriculum
- Adhere to and promote all school health policies
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all health matters within the school
- Maintain proficiency in basic computer operation, including electronic health records management, office software, online research, database operation, and Magnus software
- Utilize learning management and student information systems provided by the school
- Present a positive role model for students that supports the school's mission
- Participate in school-wide events and attend during and after-school functions in support of the school community
- Attend and participate in all required faculty and staff meetings and serve on school committees as required
- Support the needs of the Leman+ program on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:30-5:00 PM and Friday 3:30-4:30 PM
- Complete additional responsibilities as assigned by the Division Head or direct supervisor based on student and school needs, such as test proctoring
- Continue professional growth by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations
- Demonstrate flexibility and a positive attitude toward new challenges and growth opportunities
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Current license to practice as a nurse in New York State
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification
- Minimum of one year of experience as a school nurse
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Commitment to the school's mission, core values, and inclusion statement
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Magnus software
