CST - Operating Room 6:45a-3:15p

Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to provide technical services in the Operating Room. Working under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Physician, you will assist with surgical procedures and may also work in Central Sterile Processing as needed.

Schedule

• First shift: 6:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
• 5/8 hour shifts
• Full-time position

Responsibilities

• Prepare and assist with surgical procedures in collaboration with the Registered Nurse
• Pull cases according to doctor preference cards
• Maintain and prepare the sterile field
• Maintain knowledge of surgical procedures
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon
• Assist the surgeon by passing instruments, sutures, and other materials
• Develop individualized care plans with strategies that address patient diagnoses
• Provide continuity of care through plans that direct other team members
• Implement care plans in a safe and timely manner
• Document implementation and include any changes or omissions to the identified plan
• Consult with healthcare providers and make referrals as appropriate
• Utilize appropriate community resources and systems to implement the care plan
• Treat patients and families with compassion and implement the plan of care
• Base care decisions on the established plan of care
• Monitor and document patient response to treatment
• Establish rapport with patients
• Adapt communication style, listen, and respond to patient needs
• Recognize age-specific responses to treatment
• Provide effective interventions
• Respect patient confidentiality and privacy
• Support the social, spiritual, and cultural needs of patients and families
• Manage difficult or emotional patient situations
• Adhere to hospital and departmental attendance and punctuality guidelines
• Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the organization's core values, mission, and vision
• Maintain current knowledge in areas of responsibility through self-education and ongoing educational programs
• Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory in-services, requirements, and competency evaluations on time
• Demonstrate competency in providing care to all patients based on age, sex, weight, and demonstrated needs
• Wear protective clothing and equipment as appropriate
• Perform other duties as required and complete all job functions per departmental policies and procedures

Required Qualifications

• Vocational or Technical Degree in an Accredited Surgical Technology Program
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Preferred Qualifications

• 0 to 1 year of surgical technologist experience
