County-wide School Nurse (initially located at Hollywood)

Jackson County Board of Education is seeking a County-wide School Nurse, initially located at Hollywood School. This position provides comprehensive nursing care to students throughout the school system, managing both routine and complex medical needs in a school-based setting.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with students to meet their medical needs, including tube feeding, suctioning, injections, and other clinical care
• Collect medical statements and documentation supporting the need for student-related services
• Attend PST, IEP, and 504 meetings as needed
• Maintain computer program documentation of daily tasks and student interactions
• Refer to the Lead Nurse as needed for medical concerns
• Assist the Lead Nurse with staff training programs for medication administration and operation of healthcare equipment such as AEDs
• Participate in and coordinate health programs and services for designated students
• Assist with recommendations for student exclusion and readmission in compliance with policies on infections and contagious diseases
• Coordinate and implement state-mandated health screenings, including spinal screening, vision, and hearing assessments
• Conduct vision and hearing screenings on special education referrals, re-evaluations, and PST referrals, and complete appropriate forms
• Assist with field trips and similar student experiences
• Provide student care in the absence of the School Nurse when a substitute is unavailable
• Notify the Lead Nurse of equipment or materials needed to meet student needs
• Assist the Lead Nurse with supervision of LPNs as specified by Jackson County Board of Education and Alabama Board of Nursing policies
• Maintain confidentiality of all student records
• Perform other essential functions as assigned by the Superintendent or designee

Required Qualifications

• Active RN or LPN certification
• Active CPR Instructor Certification

Schedule and Supervision

• Provide at least 24 hours advance notice of anticipated personal leave to the Lead Nurse
• Notify the Lead Nurse as soon as possible of needed sick leave
• Work as an itinerant nurse supervised according to Jackson County Board of Education and Alabama Board of Nursing policies and procedures

Compensation

• Salary based on Jackson County Salary Matrix
