Thundermist Health Center is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join the Convenient Care team, providing walk-in and same-day medical care across multiple community locations. In this autonomous provider role, you will deliver comprehensive patient care in a fast-paced ambulatory clinical setting, treating acute illness and injury, performing point-of-care testing and minor procedures, and making real-time clinical decisions.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive patient care including history, physical examination, anticipatory guidance, and management of acute and chronic illness
- Evaluate and treat acute, episodic illness and injury including lacerations, fractures, sprains, and infections
- Perform point-of-care testing such as rapid strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis, and STI testing
- Perform wound care, suturing, splinting, and minor surgical procedures
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests including X-ray, ultrasound, and laboratory studies, and initiate treatment based on results
- Prescribe medications within scope of practice
- Triage patients and determine appropriate level of care, escalation, or transfer
- Provide discharge instructions and coordinate appropriate follow-up care
- Maintain complete and accurate patient records with same-day documentation
- Supervise and mentor nurse practitioner students as assigned
Administrative and Quality Responsibilities
- Participate in peer chart review on a rotating basis
- Contribute to departmental and team meetings
- Meet patient throughput and productivity standards
- Maintain compliance with credentialing, re-credentialing, and privileging requirements
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Active Rhode Island RN and NP licensure
- ANA certification in family medicine, internal medicine, women's health, or pediatrics
- Commitment to ongoing CEU and professional development
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills with proficiency in medical terminology
- Genuine commitment to patient-centered, high-quality care for diverse and underserved populations with authentic passion for health equity and community health
Schedule and Work Environment
- Full-time position, 40 hours per week
- Flexible shift structure: two 12-hour shifts and two 8-hour shifts per week
- Every other weekend and shared holiday coverage required
- Clinic hours Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., weekends 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., including closing responsibilities
- Positions available across Woonsocket, West Warwick, and South Kingstown locations
- Onsite ambulatory clinical setting with moderate physical activity including walking, standing, stooping, and occasional lifting
- Potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens, respiratory disease, infectious diseases, and other biohazardous materials requiring universal standard precautions
- Manual dexterity required for medical procedures and equipment handling
