Blount Memorial Hospital is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) to join the Operating Room on a PRN, variable schedule. In this role, you will assist in the care of patients of all ages before, during, and after surgical procedures, performing scrub duties and related functions as a member of the surgical team. You will work at a novice to advanced beginner level while completing identified job competencies, maintaining patient safety, privacy, and confidentiality throughout all procedures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare for surgical procedures by collecting necessary supplies and instruments according to Surgeon Preference Cards
- Set up the Operating Room for cases by opening sterile supplies, arranging instruments and supplies according to the type of case
- Assist the surgical team during operative procedures, including maintaining correct counts of instruments, needles, and sponges
- Identify and care for specimens; handle drugs and solutions under the direction of the RN
- Clean and prepare rooms between procedures and perform terminal cleaning at the end of the day
- Return unused supplies, instruments, and equipment to proper storage
- Maintain aseptic techniques and actively monitor for potential breaches; take corrective action as needed
- Assist with coaching, mentoring, and training coworkers as assigned
- Train and assist with integration of new team members
- Share knowledge, ideas, and expertise to support the team and department
- Complete annual age-specific accountabilities and hospital-required education
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Surgical Technology program or Surgical Technologist training in the U.S. Armed Forces
- CST certification with NBSTSA or NCCT (NCCT certification accepted if you were employed as a ST in South Carolina prior to January 1, 2008, or completed a ST military training program)
- Current maintenance of surgical technology certification
- Ability to complete 15 hours of mandatory ST continuing education annually
Alternative Qualifications
- In lieu of formal education, you may qualify if you are current with 15 hours annually of ST continuing education AND either were employed as a ST in South Carolina prior to January 1, 2008, OR completed a ST military training program
- Team members employed in this position prior to July 1, 2020, without surgical tech certification who are grandfathered under state law are not required to obtain certification but must complete 15 hours annually of continuing ST education
