Certified Pharmacy Technician - Operating Room Pharmacy

Vanderbilt Health is seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to support medication preparation, dispensing, and inventory management in the Operating Room Pharmacy. You will work in a fast-paced surgical environment, collaborating with pharmacists, nursing staff, and anesthesia providers to ensure medications are prepared and delivered safely and efficiently for surgical patients.

Clinical Setting

You will work in the Operating Room Satellite Pharmacy within Vanderbilt Health's comprehensive academic health system, which operates eight hospitals and over 180 clinics across the Mid-South region.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications
• Apply departmental processes regarding inventory control and drug inventory management
• Perform activities as directed by pharmacists and pharmacy managers in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and hospital policies
• Deliver outstanding customer service to internal and external customers
• Answer phone requests and triage calls to the appropriate person when necessary
• Operate computer systems and utilize pharmacy technology
• Maintain competency in all required training as determined by area leadership

Required Qualifications

• Current Certified Pharmacy Technician certification through either the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
• Tennessee Pharmacy Technician License
• Graduate of an approved pharmacy technician program
• Pharmaceutical computer literacy with demonstrated basic understanding of computers or successful completion of training for medication use support applications
• Fundamental proficiency in pharmaceutical drug preparation, dispensing, and distribution, including knowledge of asepsis principles and sterile compounding techniques
• Working knowledge of pharmaceutical quality assurance, compliance, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
• Ability to maintain appropriate inventory levels and collect, organize, and maintain pharmacy-related information

Schedule

• Day shift, 5:00 AM to 4:00 PM
• Five 8-hour shifts per week
• Weekend and holiday rotation required

Experience

Relevant pharmacy technician work experience is required. New graduates or those with less than one year of experience may be considered.
