Welia Health is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to support the nursing team at our hospital in Mora, Minnesota. In this role, you will assist professional nursing staff by performing routine duties in caring for hospitalized patients, working closely with nurses, physicians, patients, and their families.
Clinical Setting
You will work in a hospital nursing environment, providing direct patient care across various units and patient populations.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine treatment procedures as directed and set up patient care equipment as appropriate
- Assist registered nurses and licensed practical nurses with complicated treatment procedures
- Prepare patient rooms, beds, and units for patient admissions, returning surgical patients, transfers, and emergencies
- Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge procedures
- Perform general care activities for patients under standard precautions or isolation, including post-mortem care
- Provide personal care and assist with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Assist with preoperative and postoperative care, including patient positioning, lifting and turning with proper body mechanics, applying special equipment, and ambulating patients
- Take and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation; measure weight, height, intake, and output as applicable
- Collect specimens and transport them to appropriate areas
- Communicate with team leaders regarding patient status, including vital signs, activity, and appetite; report and document any observed changes in patient condition or behavior
- Prepare patients for meals, distribute food trays, assist or feed patients as necessary, and remove trays; distribute drinking water and other nourishments
- Make rounds to assigned patients, anticipate patient needs, and respond to call lights and paging
- Handle and care for patient clothing and personal property, including prosthetic devices, hearing aids, dentures, glasses, and contact lenses from admission through discharge
- Transport patients to and from various areas as necessary
- Stock nurse servers daily with established supplies needed for patient care
- Assist in checking expiration dates on supplies monthly
- Report any medications not located in medication bins to the charge nurse; do not perform any other medication-related tasks
- Maintain a safe and clean environment by reporting equipment problems, cleaning and preparing equipment for disinfection, and receiving supply stock
- Attend departmental meetings and in-service education programs to learn new treatments, procedures, and communication skills
- Participate in committees and activities that promote nursing and patient care development
- Understand your role in disaster plans, fire plans, Code Blue, and Code Pink procedures
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and support the Patient Bill of Rights
- Follow standard precautions for all aspects of patient care and comply with Joint Commission standards
- Implement quality assurance standards and programs
Schedule
This is a part-time position with rotating shifts, including every third weekend and holidays. You will work 56 hours per pay period.
Required Qualifications
- Completion of a nursing assistant program at an accredited school
- BLS certification required upon hire and renewed every 2 years
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous nursing assistant experience
Physical Demands
You will be regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. You will occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. You must occasionally carry up to 20 pounds and push up to 200 pounds. Frequent lifting and pulling of 40-50 pounds is required. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
You will occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate with occasional louder noise. You may encounter dusts, mists, violent behavior, contact with communicable diseases, and unpleasant odors. Precautions should be taken when using oxygen with aerosol.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $19.23 - $26.98 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.

You will receive on-the-job training under close supervision. This position reports to the Nursing Supervisor or Nursing Manager and is classified as non-exempt under FLSA.
