CERTIFIED NURSING ASSISTANT / PM and NOC shifts

Mariner Healthcare is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide direct resident care on PM and NOC shifts. In this role, you will work under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical/vocational nurse to support residents' daily living activities, monitor their health status, and contribute to their overall care plan in a long-term care setting.

Responsibilities

• Take and record vital signs, height, weight, fluid intake and output
• Calculate and record weight gain or loss and percentage of meal eaten
• Bathe, dress, and toilet residents; assist with grooming and mouth care
• Assist residents with eating and hydration using proper feeding techniques
• Transfer, position, and turn residents; maintain range of motion
• Observe residents' skin during care and report changes to the licensed nurse
• Provide skin care and recognize abnormal changes in body functioning
• Make routine rounds on each assigned resident every two hours
• Care for residents when death is imminent
• Provide restorative nursing services including bladder and bowel retraining, training in self-care and use of assistive devices
• Provide specialized care for residents with dementia, including behavior management and effective communication techniques
• Meet residents' mental health and social service needs; allow residents to make personal choices
• Contribute to resident assessments and care planning
• Provide non-resident care including cleaning wheelchairs, utility areas, nurses' station, shower and whirlpool rooms, and kitchen areas
• Transport residents to and from hospital and medical appointments
• Promote and protect resident rights; report suspected abuse or neglect
• Participate in fire and disaster drills; follow safety and security procedures
• Apply infection control and hand washing principles; comply with OSHA standards
• Maintain confidentiality of resident information
• Attend in-service and continuing education programs

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Graduate of a state-approved nursing assistant training program
• Passed a state-approved competency examination (written and skills) within 120 days of employment
• Name entered into state nurse aide registry
• Freedom from illegal use of drugs
• Freedom from use of and effects of use of drugs and alcohol in the workplace
• Not eligible if found guilty by a court of law of abusing, neglecting, or mistreating individuals in a health care-related setting
• Ability to express self adequately in written and oral communication
• Ability to add and subtract three-digit numbers; calculate percentages; measure in cubic centimeters, feet, and inches; perform operations using units of weight, volume, length, and height
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form

Preferred Qualifications

• One to three months of related experience and/or training

Physical Demands

• Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands or fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear
• Occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and stoop or kneel
• Occasionally assist to lift and/or transfer residents weighing between 100 to 250 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision

Work Environment

• Occasionally exposed to blood or other body fluids, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals
• Noise level is usually moderate

Compensation and Benefits

• Wage rate: $21.00 to $23.00 per hour depending on experience
• Sign-on bonus of $1,500.00 paid in increments of $500.00 per quarter until fully paid
