Wilkes Medical Center is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (NA I) to provide direct patient care on our medical unit in Wilkesboro, NC. This fast-paced unit cares for a wide range of general medical patients and is known for offering the most variety in the hospital. Staff have the opportunity to cross-train in multiple areas, gaining a broad skill set and strong confidence through an excellent preceptor program.

Clinical Setting

The medical unit is dedicated to providing patient and family-centered care while collaborating with an interdisciplinary healthcare team, including physicians, providers, specialists, case management, and respiratory therapists to ensure each patient receives complete care.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the implementation of the nursing process by providing direct care to patients under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Perform special procedures correctly under the direction of the RN
  • Create and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, self, co-workers, and the facility
  • Ensure complete, accurate, and timely communication of patient information
  • Communicate with the team, co-workers, patients, and family members in an effective, positive, and professional manner
  • Take personal responsibility and initiative for performance, professional growth, and development
  • Provide age and developmentally appropriate patient care in accordance with Age/Developmental Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Completion of an applicable State Approved Nurse Aide I course
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to perform effectively with frequent workload changes and competing demands
  • Basic computer skills

Work Environment

  • Contact with patients, family members, visitors, co-workers, and medical staff under a wide variety of circumstances
  • Regular exposure to blood-borne diseases, infectious and contagious diseases
  • Subject to multiple interruptions
  • Occasional exposure to radiation hazards and cleaning agents/chemicals
  • Occasionally subject to irregular hours
  • Use of personal protective equipment required
