Certified Nursing Assistant - Med/Surg - Ochsner Westbank - F/T

Ochsner Westbank is seeking a full-time Certified Nursing Assistant for the Medical/Surgical unit. In this role, you will work collaboratively with nursing staff to maintain patient safety and provide basic patient care under direct supervision of a licensed nurse. You will provide constant observation of patients, notify nursing personnel of changes in behavior or status, and intervene as needed to maintain safety. This position requires effective communication with co-workers, patients, families, and visitors, and adherence to all policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Support the plan of care as delegated by the staff nurse within scope of skills verification
• Maintain a clean and safe environment in the patient care area
• Provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the patient population
• Communicate patient care needs effectively with patients, families, and other staff members, including multidisciplinary teams
• Complete documentation of patient-related tasks
• Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy, appropriate method of introduction, adapting explanations of services or procedures, requesting permissions, and adjusting communication style
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements that apply to the assigned area and ensure compliance

Clinical Setting

This position is based in the Medical/Surgical unit at Ochsner Westbank. You will work in a patient care area with direct patient contact and exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. There is occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases and potential exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, and disposal of contaminated waste.

Required Qualifications

• Current state of practice Certification as a Nurses' Assistant (CNA)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (must be obtained within 30 days from hire)
• Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification (must be obtained within 30 days from hire)
• Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent time management skills
• Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including 24/7 availability, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Hospital and telemetry experience

Physical Demands

This position involves medium work, exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly. The role requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue.
