Join the Department of Hospice as a Certified Nursing Assistant and provide compassionate care to patients at the end of life. As a member of the patient care team, you will work under the supervision of a registered nurse or therapist to assist with essential activities of daily living and support the clinical care plan.
Clinical Setting
This position is based in home hospice care, where you will visit patients in their homes to provide direct patient care and support.
Responsibilities
- Bathe patients in shower or tub using appropriate water temperature while preventing falls and maintaining privacy
- Assist patients with safe transfers using proper body mechanics to protect both yourself and the patient
- Help patients with ambulation and mobility as directed by the care plan
- Maintain a clean and tidy patient care area
- Document patient care in the electronic medical record (EMR) according to policies and procedures
- Notify the RN of any changes in patient condition
- Prepare and submit documentation in a timely manner
- Participate in in-service and competency programs as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Completion of a Nurse Aide training program from an approved school, or successful completion of a 75-hour Home Health Hospice Aide certification program with demonstrated competency in Nurse Aide skills during orientation
- Current Mississippi driver license
- Proof of automobile insurance
- Computer experience
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and follow directions precisely
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively
- Ability to maintain rapport with patients and families from varied socioeconomic backgrounds and environments
Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Nurse Aide Certificate (required upon hire)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required within 30 days of employment)
- CPR certification (required by completion of clinical orientation)
Preferred Qualifications
- Six months of prior nurse aide work experience
