Certified Nursing Assistant-Family Care Unit (Full Time 7a-7p -three 12 hour shifts a week requirement, 1yr + experience preferred)

The Family Care Unit at UMC Health System is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide basic patient care under the supervision of a nurse on a full-time basis. This position is located in the UMC East Tower and serves the Family Care Unit, which provides comprehensive care for women and newborns in a 44-bed unit with private suites.

Clinical Setting

The Family Care Unit is a specialized nursing unit that cares for mothers and newborns (referred to as couplets) immediately after delivery, as well as other female patient populations including stable antepartum (pregnant) patients, gynecology, gyn-oncology, and medical-surgical patients. The unit provides an ideal environment for nursing professionals to develop expertise in postpartum care, neonatal resuscitation, newborn assessment and care, breastfeeding management and support, basic electronic fetal monitoring, and nursing management of various medical-surgical conditions.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care under the supervision of a licensed nurse
• Observe patients and report changes in patient condition
• Record vital signs
• Perform EKGs
• Maintain quality patient care adhering to safety practices and proper clinical documentation
• Contribute to unit success through adherence to strategic plans and quality initiatives
• Participate in staff meetings and professional development activities
• Interact with ancillary departments to support a multidisciplinary approach to patient care

Schedule

Full-time position requiring three 12-hour shifts per week, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Required Qualifications

• Completed Nurse Aide course with current Nurse Aide Certification (PCA or PCT certification also acceptable)
• Current BLS certification from American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• One year or more of previous or recent hospital Nurse Aide experience

Physical Requirements

This position involves medium-demand work requiring standing and walking most of the time on duty. Duties include lifting and pushing patients, carts, and wheelchairs. Good tactile sensation is necessary for checking patients. Talking and hearing to converse with patients and staff members is required. Near visual acuity is necessary for accurate reading of gauges and thermometers and for recording on patients' charts.
