The opportunity

Job Description

This position provides certified nursing assistant services to residents in a long-term care or assisted living facility. You will work under the direction of nursing supervisors and care coordinators to deliver direct resident care in accordance with established care plans and facility policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting
  • Help residents with lifting, turning, moving, positioning, and transferring to and from beds, chairs, bathtubs, wheelchairs, and lifts
  • Coordinate dining room services including meal tray delivery, setup and cleanup, feeding assistance, and documentation of meal intake
  • Deliver nutritional supplements and assist residents with intake as needed
  • Assist with weighing residents and recording weights; report significant weight changes to nursing staff
  • Monitor and report skin condition changes including pressure areas, skin breakdown, or skin tears
  • Assist with toileting programs and complete daily flow sheets documenting completed tasks
  • Report changes in resident condition to nursing staff and supervisors
  • Maintain confidentiality of all protected health information
  • Follow infection control policies and procedures
  • Use proper lifting and body mechanics while delivering care
  • Participate in emergency drills and training
  • Attend care plan meetings for assigned residents
  • Participate in facility quality improvement activities as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Current Food Handler Permit
  • No disciplinary action in effect against any certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing with the state
  • At least one year of experience as a certified nursing assistant in long-term care

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, bend, and stoop for extended periods
  • Ability to lift, move, push, or pull a minimum of 35 pounds
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform overhead lifting as needed
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to perform resident care
  • Ability to work beyond normal hours, weekends, and holidays when necessary
  • Ability to assist in evacuation of residents during emergencies
  • May be subject to falls, burns from equipment, and exposure to odors, dust, tobacco smoke, disinfectants, and other air contaminants
  • Subject to exposure to infectious waste and diseases including AIDS, Coronavirus, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis
  • May encounter hostile or emotional residents, family members, or visitors
  • Must meet general health requirements including medical and physical exams and immunity status verification
  • Must not pose a threat to the health and safety of others in the workplace
