Job Description

West Covina Healthcare Center, a 99-bed skilled nursing facility in West Covina, CA, is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide routine daily nursing care to residents. You will work under the direction of nursing supervisors to ensure all care is delivered in accordance with residents' assessment plans and current federal, state, and local regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Answer call lights and respond to resident requests
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living, including grooming, bathing, and dressing
  • Help residents with feeding, including cutting food and spoon feeding as needed
  • Assist residents with sitting, standing, and walking
  • Properly lift and transition residents between beds, wheelchairs, and chairs
  • Transport residents to dining areas and activity spaces
  • Ensure all nursing care is provided with privacy and dignity
  • Make residents comfortable by adjusting bedding, providing water, and attending to comfort needs
  • Report any changes in resident condition to the Nurse Supervisor in a timely manner
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident files and data in accordance with HIPAA standards
  • Follow all facility policies and procedures, including infection control protocols
  • Report any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, or hazardous materials to a supervisor immediately
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of CNA training from an accredited school
  • Valid CNA certificate
  • Valid CPR certification
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language
  • Ability to use a computer or tablet to enter resident data

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some prior experience in a healthcare setting

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the day and work in nursing areas
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds; lifting more weight up to 100 pounds requires assistance
  • Ability to read fine print on tablets, progress notes, and medical labels

Working Conditions

  • May encounter frequent interruptions
  • May interact with residents, families, and government agencies
  • May be requested to work beyond scheduled hours
  • Subject to call-back during emergency conditions such as severe weather, evacuation, or post-disaster situations
  • May be exposed to odors, dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and air contaminants
  • May be exposed to infectious waste and diseases, including TB, AIDS, and Hepatitis B viruses
  • May be exposed to or handle hazardous chemicals
