Tropical Health Hospice is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide compassionate personal care services to terminally ill hospice patients. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, you will support patients and their families throughout the end-of-life care journey and participate as a member of the hospice interdisciplinary team.
Responsibilities
- Provide personal care including bathing, mouth care, skin care, and hair care
- Assist patients with bathroom use, bedpan, or commode as needed
- Perform bed transfers and ambulation assistance per the individualized care plan
- Assist with range of motion exercises as instructed by the RN
- Prepare meals and assist with feeding, including special diets
- Perform incidental household tasks essential to patient well-being
- Provide shopping assistance when no other resources are available
- Take vital signs when assigned by the RN
- Report changes in patient condition or family situation immediately to the RN
- Provide emotional support and compassionate care to patients and families
- Demonstrate effective listening and offer encouragement and patience
- Maintain adherence to Standard Precautions and OSHA regulations
- Complete at least 12 hours of in-service education annually
- Participate in RN supervision and evaluation every 14 days
- Participate in annual performance review
Required Qualifications
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
- Graduate of an approved training and competency program
- Meets federal Home Health Aide training and competency requirements
- Valid driver's license
- Auto liability insurance
- Reliable transportation
- Ability to work independently and make accurate, timely judgments
- Ability to respond appropriately to crises outside a hospital setting
- Ability to work with diverse social, racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to lift and transfer up to 100 lbs with maximal assistance
- Adequate vision and hearing (with adaptive devices if needed)
- Flexibility and emotional stability
- Current state CNA certification
- Annual TB test and other required examinations
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a nursing assistant
- Active patient contact within the past 3 years
Physical Requirements
- Frequent kneeling, squatting, reaching, twisting, climbing, and walking
- Exposure to temperature and humidity changes
- Exposure to odors, blood, body fluids, excretions, hazardous materials, and adverse environmental conditions
