Job Description

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to provide direct patient care across our Transitional Care and Acute Care Units. This role offers the opportunity to work in multiple clinical settings, each with distinct patient populations and care focuses.

Clinical Settings

Transitional Care Unit (20 beds): Serves primarily short-stay recuperative and rehabilitation patients, with a majority being geriatric and stable post-op orthopedic and oncology patients. This family- and patient-focused environment emphasizes collaboration and communication. You will work with wound vacs, Hoyer lifts, and standard IV therapy while partnering with patients, families, therapists, and counselors to help patients return home with maximum independence. The unit features recreational activities, 24-hour visitation, and an onsite PT/OT gym. OAPSA clearance is required for this unit.

Orthopedics Unit (30 beds): A medical-surgical orthopedic unit primarily caring for patients who have undergone elective surgeries such as hip and knee replacements, as well as post-op bariatric surgery patients. You will frequently use specialty orthopedic equipment such as continuous passive motion machines and bed trapezes. This patient-centered rehabilitative environment is ideal for those interested in direct involvement in rehabilitation and care. The unit also receives overflow general medical-surgical patients.

Oncology Unit (28 beds): A medical and surgical oncology unit caring for a variety of oncology patients with specialization in gynecological cancer treatments and surgical procedures including hysterectomies, mastectomies, Syed implants, and free flap/TRAM flap transplants. Many patients are admitted for chemotherapy, and some may require chemo desensitization. You will work with negative pressure rooms, disability/bariatric rooms featuring motorized lifts, and telemetry monitors. Strong teamwork is central to success on this unit.

Acute Care Unit 5300 (28 beds): A medical-surgical unit caring for a wide variety of medical and post-op patients and serving as the hospital's stepdown unit. The patient population is extremely diverse, with ages ranging from 15 to 100+. Many patients receive insulin and/or Cardizem drips. All 28 beds are housed in private rooms, each hardwired for telemetry monitoring. Post-op patients may be recovering from orthopedic, vascular, urological, gynecological, or bariatric surgeries. The unit frequently receives overflow surgical patients.

Acute Care Unit 3200 (24 beds): A medical-surgical telemetry unit caring for a wide variety of medical and post-op patients, including short-stay patients. Although Magee is a women's hospital, this unit cares for both women and men in a compassionate, supportive, high-tech environment utilizing protocols to enable both patient and staff safety. Post-op patients may be recovering from orthopedic, vascular, urological, gynecological, or bariatric surgeries.
