Adventist HealthCare is seeking students to enroll in our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Academy, a comprehensive six-week training program designed to prepare you for certification as a licensed CNA and employment within our healthcare system. Upon successful completion of coursework, clinical training, and the Maryland Board of Nursing certification exam, you will be promoted to a full-time CNA position at one of our four acute care facilities.

Program Overview

This is a full-time, paid training program with no tuition fees. You will be a compensated Adventist HealthCare employee throughout the program. The six-week curriculum consists of four weeks of classroom instruction and two weeks of clinical practice.

Schedule

  • Classroom (4 weeks): Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM at Shady Grove Medical Center Simulation Lab in Rockville
  • Clinicals (2 weeks): Three 12-hour shifts per week, split between Shady Grove Medical Center (Rockville) and White Oak Medical Center (Silver Spring)
  • Program start date: November 2, 2026 (Cohort 25)

Responsibilities and Learning Outcomes

As a CNA student, you will:

  • Develop clinical competence through classroom instruction, simulation exercises, and supervised clinical application on patient care units
  • Master technical skills including vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, mobility assistance, activities of daily living support, and patient feeding
  • Develop interpersonal skills including building therapeutic relationships with patients and collaborating effectively with healthcare team members
  • Demonstrate commitment to safety, lifelong learning, professionalism, and patient experience throughout the program
  • Complete all training requirements and pass the Maryland Board of Nursing state board exam to obtain CNA licensure

Employment After Graduation

Upon successful completion and licensure, you will continue employment as a licensed CNA at one of the following Adventist HealthCare facilities:

  • Shady Grove Medical Center (Rockville)
  • White Oak Medical Center (Silver Spring)
  • AHC Rehabilitation Hospital (Acute Rehab, Rockville)
  • Fort Washington Medical Center (Fort Washington)

You will be required to maintain a 12-month employment commitment with Adventist HealthCare as a licensed CNA.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • English proficiency in reading, writing, and spoken communication
  • Basic computer skills
  • Successful completion of a background check for healthcare employees
  • No prior patient care experience is necessary

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $18.00 to $22.79 per hour
