The opportunity

Job Description

As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU), you will provide basic and intermediate nursing care to assigned patients under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse. You will work in a clinical setting that cares for patients with high-risk conditions, applying competent nursing practices to support patient care and recovery.

Clinical Setting

The PCU serves patients ages 15 and older with high-risk conditions. Depending on unit assignment, you may also rotate through or support other specialized areas including general nursing units, maternal child units (labor and delivery, nursery, pediatrics), GI lab, chemical dependent unit, psychiatric unit, emergency department, and surgical services. Each area requires clinically competent staff trained in the specific patient population and care requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic and intermediate nursing care for assigned patients
  • Work under the direction and supervision of the RN
  • Complete established competencies for the position within the designated introductory period
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Aide, Medical Assistant, or intermediate or higher level Emergency Medical Technician program
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in an inpatient setting, Emergency Department, or Skilled Nursing Unit
  • Current certification in one of the following: Emergency Medical Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Phlebotomist, or EKG Technician

Required Certifications and Training

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification obtained through an approved American Heart Association Training Center or Military Training Network
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification, to be obtained within 60 days of hire or transfer to the position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Satisfactory completion of a nurse aide course
  • EMT or Paramedic certification
  • Medical Assistant certification
