Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Medical Care - PT - Nights

This is a part-time, night shift Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) position providing direct patient care under the supervision of registered nurses. You will support the patient care team by assisting with activities of daily living, collecting patient data and specimens, performing designated patient care procedures, and handling clerical and communication duties.

Responsibilities

Assisting Patients with Activities of Daily Living

• Perform range of motion exercises
• Ambulate patients
• Position patients and provide skin care
• Distribute linen and change beds as needed
• Assist with feeding and meal delivery
• Assist with routine hygiene care including toileting, incontinent care, oral hygiene, and personal hygiene

Assisting with Patient Data Collection and Specimens

• Obtain and process urine, stool, and sputum specimens
• Obtain and record height, weight, vital signs, pulse oximetry, pain assessment, and intake and output
• Communicate patient status and report changes in patient condition to licensed professionals

Performing and Explaining Designated Patient Care Procedures

• Perform incentive spirometry
• Transport patients and prepare them for diagnostic tests
• Assist rehabilitation therapists
• Perform pulse oximetry and oxygen setup for oxygen therapy
• Prepare rooms and supplies
• Provide post-mortem care
• Prepare for patient admission and discharge
• Assist nurses in emergency situations
• Maintain and clean equipment
• Perform oral and nasopharyngeal suction
• Perform blood sugar finger sticks
• Remove IV catheters per licensed nurse instruction
• Perform EKGs (department-specific responsibility)

Additional Duties

• Answer unit phone and direct calls
• Perform data entry into electronic medical database systems
• Document patient care and related duties appropriately
• Perform selected patient registration activities
• Coordinate equipment and supply needs
• Notify appropriate departments of equipment malfunctions
• Perform other related clerical and technical duties as assigned

Schedule

• Part-time, night shift position
• Must be able to work irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• CNA license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
• AHA BLS Provider CPR certification at hire
• For positions at Snowden at Fredericksburg: CPI certification required within 90 days of hire

Physical Requirements

• Constant walking, standing, and use of arms and hands (67-100% of workday)
• Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting (34-66% of workday)
• Ability to lift 35 lbs
• Ability to push and pull 20 lbs
• Auditory and visual skills including color determination
• Ability to work in confined spaces
• Ability to reach above and overhead

• Clinical positions in Mary Washington Home Health and/or Hospice must also meet driving requirements

Compensation

• Pay range: $18.07 - $23.49 per hour
