Job Description

As a Certified Nursing Assistant, you will provide routine daily nursing care to residents in accordance with their individual assessment plans and current federal, state, and local regulations. You will treat each resident with kindness, dignity, and respect, maintaining a positive and calm disposition while communicating clearly and empathetically with residents, families, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Answer call lights and respond to resident requests
  • Ensure all nursing care is provided with privacy
  • Make residents comfortable, including assisting with bed positioning and providing water
  • Assist with feeding residents, including cutting food and spoon feeding as needed
  • Help residents with daily grooming, showers, and sponge baths
  • Properly lift and transition residents between wheelchairs, beds, chairs, and other positions
  • Assist residents with sitting, standing, and walking
  • Transport residents to dining areas for meals and activities, and return them to their rooms
  • Report changes in resident condition to the charge nurse in a timely manner
  • Protect resident files and data in accordance with HIPAA standards
  • Follow all facility policies and procedures, including infection control protocols
  • Report any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, or hazardous materials to a supervisor immediately
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of CNA training from an accredited school
  • Valid CNA certificate
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language
  • Ability to use a computer or tablet to enter resident data

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the day and work throughout nursing areas
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds; lifting more weight up to 100 pounds requires assistance
  • Ability to read fine print on tablets, progress notes, and medical labels

Working Conditions

  • May encounter frequent interruptions
  • May be involved with residents, families, and government agencies
  • May be requested to work beyond scheduled hours
  • Subject to call-back during emergency conditions such as severe weather, evacuation, or post-disaster situations
  • May be exposed to odors, dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and air contaminants
  • May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions including TB, AIDS, and Hepatitis B viruses
  • May be exposed to or handle hazardous chemicals

Experience

  • Some experience is helpful; training will be provided
