Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) - Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) Hospital Float Pool Unit FT Days

Carolinas Medical Center is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to join the Hospital Float Pool Unit on a full-time day shift basis. In this role, you will provide direct patient care support to the nursing team across multiple units, assisting with activities of daily living, patient monitoring, and maintaining a safe and clean patient environment.

Responsibilities

• Assist registered nurses with daily patient care including bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, and ambulation using proper body mechanics and assistive devices as needed
• Measure and document vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration), blood pressure, intake and output, daily weights, and other patient data in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Perform purposeful rounding under RN direction and promptly communicate patient observations, concerns, and needs to the nursing team
• Participate in patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes including room setup, patient orientation, linen management, and proper handling of patient belongings
• Ensure patient call lights are accessible and respond to call lights promptly
• Collect urine, stool, and sputum specimens and perform point-of-care testing using approved procedures with accurate specimen labeling and identification
• Complete various support tasks including delivery of trays, charts, specimens, and reports; maintain and order nursing area stock; and clean equipment and work areas
• Perform patient positioning and transferring duties using proper technique and assistive devices, including lifting up to 50 pounds from floor to waist
• Support patient nutritional needs under RN direction including diet review, tray setup and removal, proper positioning, and diet selection
• Maintain patient skin integrity through proper repositioning and skin care; ensure special supplies and appliances such as TED hose and sequential compression devices are provided and maintained
• Under RN direction and as determined by unit requirements, may remove IVs, provide post mortem care, and perform bladder scans
• Practice infection prevention by demonstrating proper hand hygiene, sterile and aseptic procedures, appropriate disposal of contaminated materials, and use of proper protective attire when caring for patients in isolation
• Provide age-appropriate care demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan and ability to assess and interpret patient data to identify age-specific care requirements

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED)
• Nurse Aide certification in good standing with the State Registry in which you practice
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) must be obtained within 45 days of hire
• Basic computer skills
• Excellent oral and written communication
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to set priorities

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during work shifts
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist
• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds over the head
• Ability to carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance
• Ability to push and pull with 30 pounds of force
• Ability to perform sliding transfers of 150 pounds with a second person present
• Ability to use foot pedals on carts or machines
• Functional vision and hearing required
• Continuous exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; protective clothing must be worn as necessary
• Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
