Job Description

Carolinas Medical Center is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for the 8DE High Risk Post Partum Unit on a PRN nights basis. In this role, you will provide direct support to postpartum patients during their recovery and hospital stay, assisting with activities of daily living and helping nursing staff deliver safe, compassionate care.

Responsibilities

  • Support patients with activities of daily living and personal hygiene
  • Take vital signs and measure height and weight
  • Feed and ambulate patients according to established procedures
  • Maintain patients' rooms in clean and orderly condition
  • Observe and report changes in patient conditions to nursing staff
  • Orient patients and families to the unit and provide safety instruction
  • Assist with clerical duties including answering phones, data entry, and medical record maintenance
  • Maintain inventory of stock supply items
  • Perform duties outlined in the scope of Nurse Aide I or Nurse Aide II tasks per applicable state Board of Nursing standards
  • Perform technical tasks with appropriate training, including 12-lead electrocardiogram administration and routine venipuncture

Clinical Setting

You will work on a high-risk postpartum unit serving patients in the immediate postpartum period. The role requires knowledge of growth and development principles and the ability to provide care appropriate to the ages, cultures, developmental stages, and special needs of the patient population served.

Physical Requirements

This position requires walking, standing, sitting, lifting, reaching, bending, stretching, stooping, pushing, and pulling. You must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds when handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies. You must speak and understand English clearly and possess manual and finger dexterity. Physical abilities testing is required.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current listing with the DFS Nurse Aide Registry as a Nurse Aide I or with the applicable state Board of Nursing as a Nurse Aide II
  • BLS certification per policy guidelines
  • Ability to speak and understand English in clear, understandable terms

Machines, Tools, and Equipment

You will use equipment required by the unit, including blood pressure manometer, stethoscope, thermometer, personal protective equipment, wheelchairs, stretchers, utility cars, and related clinical equipment.

You will be responsible for protecting patient privacy by limiting access to protected health information (PHI) to information reasonably necessary to perform your job duties. Information will be shared only on a need-to-know basis for work purposes. Access to verbal, written, and electronic PHI is controlled via user ID and password based on job level and responsibility.
