Job Description

As a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), you will provide direct, non-invasive bedside care to patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Working in an inpatient hospital setting, you will be responsible for delivering basic patient care and maintaining a safe, comfortable environment that supports patient healing.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic patient care including bathing, toileting, feeding, and grooming
  • Perform and document vital signs, measure and record intake and output, weights, and specimen collections
  • Transfer patients using proper body mechanics and safe patient handling techniques
  • Report any changes in patient condition or behavior to nursing personnel
  • Prepare unit, patient rooms, and beds for patient admissions
  • Maintain beds and rooms in a clean, neat, safe, and comfortable manner
  • Remove unused supplies and equipment to ensure safe, organized spaces
  • Adhere to patient rounding expectations and standards
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to patient and family calls and requests
  • Designate applicable charges to individual patients using the hospital's established system
  • Maintain a physical, social, and psychological environment conducive to patient comfort and healing
  • Assess safety risks and implement appropriate precautions for patients, visitors, and staff
  • Comply with Infection Prevention standards and approved safety protocols
  • Maintain regular attendance according to assigned work schedule
  • Complete required trainings as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational effectiveness
  • May be required to work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • 2 years of experience in an inpatient hospital setting required
  • Current state CNA certification
  • BLS certification
  • Knowledge of current clinical operations and procedures
  • Knowledge of Infection Prevention standards and proper body mechanics
  • General computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection prevention standards
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work professionally with others at all levels of the organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Inpatient rehabilitation experience

Physical Requirements

Over the course of a shift, you will be required to:

  • Stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, push, and pull for prolonged periods
  • Perform both gross and precise motor functions
  • Lift and exert up to 50 pounds
  • Tolerate possible exposure to bodily fluids
  • Maintain visual acuity for patient assessment and documentation
  • Maintain acute hearing for accurate patient assessment
  • Demonstrate sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboards
  • Maintain close vision and the ability to adjust focus
