The opportunity

Job Description

Rhode Island Hospital is seeking a Certified Nursing Assistant to provide direct patient care under the supervision of Registered Nurses. In this full-time role, you will assist patients and families from admission through discharge, performing personal care, basic nursing assistant skills, and rehabilitation activities while maintaining a safe care environment.

Clinical Setting

You will work in an acute care hospital environment at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Registered Nurses to organize work and set priorities
  • Provide personal care and basic nursing assistant skills as outlined by the Rhode Island Department of Health
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and ambulation as appropriate
  • Maintain a safe environment by reporting unsafe conditions, equipment needing repair, and removing equipment from service
  • Communicate all pertinent patient observations and signs or symptoms to the Registered Nurse
  • Maintain quality assurance and infection control in accordance with hospital and department policies and procedures
  • Accurately document data in the electronic health record and patient care flowsheets
  • Perform responsibilities in emergency and code situations as needed
  • May function as a patient observer
  • Perform other related duties as required

Required Qualifications

  • Current Rhode Island license as a Nursing Assistant
  • Certification in American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)
  • Ability to perform basic computer skills
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience as a Nursing Assistant

Physical Requirements

This position involves prolonged sitting, standing, and walking. You may be required to perform repeated bending, squatting, and stooping, and to lift and turn patients and equipment.

Schedule

  • Full-time position, 36 hours per week
  • Day shift
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday
  • No driving required
