Assistant Patient Care Manager, Operating Room

The Assistant Patient Care Manager for the Operating Room works under the direction of the Patient Care Manager/Director to support clinical operations and professional nursing standards in the OR setting. This role combines clinical expertise with administrative and supervisory responsibilities to ensure patient safety, quality care, and effective department operations.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate clinical expertise and serve as a clinical resource to OR staff
• Plan, organize, and supervise daily operations to ensure patient safety and quality care
• Select, motivate, and retain staff; initiate formal recognition programs
• Facilitate department staff meetings and training relevant to the position
• Participate in personal and professional development activities and serve on hospital and unit-based councils
• Lead and mentor staff in performance improvement initiatives related to quality, safety, and patient experience
• Promote an environment that supports inquiry, creative thought, nursing education, and evidence-based practice
• Review staff performance, complete annual evaluations, ensure staff competency, and initiate remedial actions when appropriate
• Act as liaison with Clinical Risk Management; participate in event reviews, action planning, and resolution of complaints and grievances
• Maintain appropriate, timely, and effective communication with patients, families, the multidisciplinary team, ancillary departments, and management
• Maintain departmental records for administrative and regulatory purposes

Required Qualifications

• Current Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania or New Jersey (based on work location)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required within 5 years of obtaining the position

Preferred Qualifications

• Two years of direct clinical experience
• Previous supervisory experience

Physical and Sensory Requirements

• Sitting for up to 5 hours per day, 2 hours at a time
• Standing for up to 1 hour per day, 1 hour at a time
• Walking for up to 2 hours per day, 20 minutes at a time
• Occasionally uses fingers to turn pages
• Frequently uses hands to write, type, and hold charts
• Rarely uses hands or fingers for firm grasping or twisting/turning
• Frequently uses upper extremities to lift and carry up to 10 pounds
• Frequently stoops, occasionally squats, rarely reaches above shoulder level

• Seeing as it relates to general vision, near vision, far vision, color vision, and peripheral vision
