Assistant Nurse Manager (RN) - Level I General Surgery Operating Room, FT, Days

Prisma Health Richland Hospital is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager (RN) for the General Surgery Operating Room. In collaboration with the Nurse Manager, you will supervise staff and unit operations while providing direct patient care greater than 50% of the time. You will oversee a 28-operating room unit that serves as a Level I Trauma Center, supporting multiple surgical specialties including general/trauma, robotics, surgical oncology, gynecologic, urologic, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, colorectal, and pediatric surgery.

The General Surgery Operating Room functions as a team-based environment within a Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff and unit operations to ensure delivery of safe, quality patient care and maintain professional nursing practice standards
• Maintain high visibility with patients, families, and staff on the unit, primarily during off-shifts, and resolve problems as needed
• Oversee patient care activities in a charge nurse capacity, including staff allocation and scheduling, patient assignments, rounds, investigation and resolution of patient care issues, and coordination of admissions, discharges, and transfers
• Ensure appropriate transitions of care between shifts and coordinate with other departments
• Provide direct patient care consistent with charge nurse and clinical RN responsibilities while maintaining all clinical competencies
• Perform patient experience activities including role modeling, staff mentoring and coaching, patient rounds, service recovery, and problem resolution
• Assist with continuing staff development, clinical problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Collaborate with clinical nurse educators to support new staff orientation and training
• Maintain records and documentation pertaining to staff competencies, certifications, and licensure
• Serve as a professional role model, coach, and resource for employees
• Perform administrative and quality management activities to ensure quality expectations and regulatory requirements are met
• Ensure unit compliance with departmental, Prisma Health, safety, regulatory, environmental, and infection control standards
• Maintain records and documentation pertaining to regulatory and environmental standards, quality audits, and unit-related record-keeping
• Assist the Nurse Manager in preparation for Joint Commission visits and other regulatory activities
• Perform human resources activities including interviewing, hiring, evaluating, coaching, counseling, staff rounding, and performance management
• May assist with payroll processing
• Assist the Nurse Manager in maintaining unit budget through appropriate allocation and utilization of resources
• Share accountability with the Nurse Manager for unit, department, and organizational goal achievement
• Assist in planning, directing, and evaluating short-term and long-term projects for the unit
• Develop, submit, implement, and evaluate performance objectives for self and unit
• Work with healthcare team members on activities designed to improve patient care outcomes
• Participate in nursing and hospital committees and work groups as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing
• Two years of RN experience in a related area of nursing
• Current RN compact/multistate license recognized by the NCSBN Compact State or current RN licensure in the state where you will be working

Alternative Education

In lieu of the BSN requirement, a nursing diploma or Associate's degree in Nursing may be considered if you sign a Memorandum of Understanding agreeing to enroll in an accredited BSN or MSN program within one year and obtain a BSN or MSN degree within four years.

Preferred Qualifications

• Management or supervisory experience
• Certification in nursing specialty
