APP - Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner | GI

Sanford Health is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the gastroenterology team at Sanford Broadway Clinic in Fargo, North Dakota. This full-time position offers day-shift hours (Monday through Friday) with no weekends or holidays, providing an opportunity to work alongside a team of 5 gastroenterologists, 2 hepatologists, and 9 advanced practice providers.

You will provide advanced clinical support to the gastroenterology team by managing complex clinical questions, endoscopy-related work, patient communications, referral triage, and specialty workflows. This role balances three key areas: 25% complex patient management, 50% physician and inbox clinical support, and 25% clinic patient care.

Responsibilities

• Review prior advanced endoscopy findings and pathology when relevant
• Review complex advanced endoscopy referrals
• Respond to clinical questions routed from physicians, nurses, and scheduling staff
• Review selected patient messages and telephone encounters
• Assist with medication and refill questions
• Review laboratory and imaging results according to established protocols
• Help manage physician inbox workload
• Coordinate follow-up for complex patients
• Provide clinical recommendations within APP scope and established physician collaboration
• Perform patient assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations
• Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions within scope of practice
• Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging studies
• Prescribe medications, therapies, and other treatments in compliance with regulations
• Educate and counsel patients and families on health maintenance, disease prevention, and treatment plans
• Perform procedures and treatments within scope of practice and assist with procedures when indicated
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care
• Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the electronic medical record
• Participate in quality, safety, and performance improvement activities
• Develop expertise in advanced endoscopy referrals, Barrett's Esophagus, and pancreatobiliary disease

Clinical Setting

Sanford Broadway Clinic in Fargo, North Dakota. The position includes both clinic and hospital work.

Schedule

• Full-time, 40 hours per week
• Monday through Friday day shifts
• No weekends or holidays

Required Qualifications

• Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by the ARC-PA or equivalent accrediting program accepted by the state licensing board
• Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in North Dakota
• Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in North Dakota
• State Controlled Substance License (if required by North Dakota)
• Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Preferred Qualifications

• Clinical experience in gastroenterology or specialty area
• New graduates will be considered; however, experience is preferred
