St. Tammany Health System is seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) or Physician Assistant for a nocturnist position in Hospital Medicine. This role supports the admission and care coordination of hospitalized patients from the emergency room and direct admissions during overnight shifts.
You will work collaboratively with the Lead Hospital Medicine physician and hospitalist team members to evaluate, treat, and coordinate care for patients. A formal collaborative agreement is required for this position.
Clinical Setting
St. Tammany Health System is located in Covington on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. The health system serves a community-oriented area with access to local amenities.
Responsibilities
- Examine patients and review medical history prior to admission
- Perform and document a History and Physical (H&P) that is co-signed by the attending physician within 24 hours
- Place orders for appropriate diagnostic and treatment modalities as part of the care plan
- Seek appropriate specialty and sub-specialty consultations
- Formalize the patient handoff process as part of continuity of care
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and members of the care team
Schedule
- Scheduled weekly hours: 40
- Work shift: 7pm-7am (nocturnist)
Required Qualifications for Nurse Practitioner
- Master's degree with curriculum including didactic and clinical experience in Acute Care
- Current Louisiana Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in Louisiana
- Eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana as approved by St. Tammany Health System
Required Qualifications for Physician Assistant
- Master's degree with curriculum including didactic and clinical experience in Acute Care
- Current Physician Assistant (PA) licensure in Louisiana
- Eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana as approved by St. Tammany Health System
