The opportunity

Job Description

UC Davis Health's Apheresis Department is seeking a Clinical Nurse 2 to provide specialized nursing care in a highly specialized clinical setting. As the sole Apheresis Department for UC Davis Health, this team provides complex services including plasmapheresis, red cell exchanges, therapeutic leukocyte reductions, allogeneic donor and autologous stem cell collections for stem cell transplants and CAR-T therapies, and post-transplant extracorporeal photopheresis. You will care for adult and pediatric patients with diverse medical and surgical conditions requiring peripheral venous access, central venous access, and apheresis procedures in both inpatient and ambulatory settings.

The Apheresis Department serves patients from the entire region and works closely with providers from Cellular Therapy and Stem Cell Transplant, Blood Bank, Solid Organ Transplant, Neurology, Clinical Trial, and Research. The department follows guidelines set by the American Society for Apheresis and is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered nursing care including assessment, documentation, planning, implementation, teaching, and evaluation of nursing plans of care
  • Deliver direct patient care to adult and pediatric patients with medical, surgical, critical care, emergent, and perioperative needs
  • Exercise autonomous nursing judgment consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance
  • Assess and provide nursing actions appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge
  • Participate in patient and staff education
  • Direct and act as a resource to other members of the nursing team as assigned
  • Ensure patient satisfaction and promote compliance with policies
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and accountability for own practices
  • Participate in quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives

Time allocation: 70% Nursing Process and Practice, 15% Quality and Evidence-Based Practice, 5% Leadership, 5% Professional Development, 5% Research.

Required Qualifications

  • At least two years of RN clinical experience in Apheresis and/or Dialysis
  • Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction
  • American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR certification
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately
  • Knowledge of current trends in nursing
