The opportunity

Job Description

This position coordinates and supports the medical needs of patients pursuing Head and Neck services in the Division of Head and Neck Surgery at Norfolk General Hospital. You will partner with faculty physicians and residents in Otolaryngology to provide excellent clinical care and customer service for patients with Head and Neck disorders. The role works primarily in an outpatient setting but includes some inpatient activity.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient care and medical management for a variety of Head and Neck diagnoses
  • Orient residents and nursing staff to departmental treatment guidelines and protocols, monitoring compliance to decrease practitioner variability, reduce costs, improve quality, and enhance patient satisfaction
  • Provide initial and follow-up continuity evaluation and management services to assigned patients
  • Provide initial consultation services and continuity follow-up services
  • Provide family education for a variety of Otolaryngology disorders
  • Participate in the development of clinical pathways, care plans, guidelines, and protocols in conjunction with faculty
  • Assist Head and Neck faculty members with in-office procedures
  • Facilitate communication between faculty, residents, and nursing staff regarding care plans and outpatient follow-up plans
  • Collaborate with clinic nursing staff to triage medical calls from patients, referring physicians, and primary care physicians
  • Provide pre- and postoperative treatment education to families
  • Coordinate scheduling and referrals
  • Coordinate weekly Tumor Board conference
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • For Nurse Practitioners: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a nurse practitioner focus, active RN license from the Virginia Board of Nursing, and current nurse practitioner certification
  • For Physician Assistants: Active PA license in the State of Virginia

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in Otolaryngology-related services
