Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Vascular Surgery, Full-time, Days

Northwestern Medicine seeks an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Vascular Surgery department at McHenry and Huntley Hospitals. This full-time position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive clinical care to vascular surgery patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with potential for operating room coverage.

Clinical Setting

You will work within Northwestern Medicine's Vascular Surgery department, covering inpatient rounding, outpatient clinics, and potentially the operating room. The role is based at McHenry and Huntley Hospitals.

• Monday through Friday
• Call required

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive health assessments including patient histories and physical examinations
• Provide direct clinical care to assigned patient populations
• Prescribe and order medications, therapies, laboratory tests, imaging, and procedures according to clinical privileges
• Evaluate patients to determine need for further healthcare
• Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
• Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families
• Refer to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as a consultant in areas of expertise
• Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in clinical decision-making
• Maintain professional appearance, manner, and presentation
• Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community
• Maintain all required certifications and continuing education for licensure and privileging
• Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees and task forces
• Serve as a preceptor and role model to students
• Provide formal education to internal and external groups in your specialty
• Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives for your patient population

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
• For APRNs: Acute care certification required (inpatient experience as an NP may be considered in lieu of acute care certification)
• Current RN license in Illinois
• Current APRN license in Illinois
• APRN certification by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board
• OR current PA license in Illinois
• Ability to apply for controlled substance license and DEA number
• Privileged and credentialed through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Critical Care and/or Vascular Surgery
• First Assist Certification for APRNs
