Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Vascular Surgery, Full-time, Days

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Physician Assistant or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join the Vascular Surgery department at McHenry and Huntley Hospitals. This Advanced Practice Provider will deliver comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care, with potential for operating room coverage. You will work Monday through Friday with call requirements.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive patient health assessments including histories and physical examinations
• Provide direct clinical care to assigned patient populations
• Prescribe medications and therapies; order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging, and procedures according to clinical privileges
• Evaluate patients to determine need for further healthcare
• Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
• Refer to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as a consultant in areas of expertise
• Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in clinical decision-making
• Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community

Educational and Leadership Activities

• Develop and provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families
• Mentor graduate students in advanced practice and patient care
• Serve as a preceptor and role model to students
• Develop and participate in staff continuing education programs
• Provide formal education to internal and external groups in your specialty

Quality and Professional Development

• Actively participate in quality improvement and research initiatives pertinent to vascular surgery
• Maintain professional appearance, manner, and presentation
• Maintain all required certifications and continuing education for licensure and privileging
• Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees and task forces as appropriate

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
• For APRNs: Acute care certification required (inpatient experience as an NP may be considered in lieu of acute care certification)
• Current Illinois RN license and current Illinois Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license with certification by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board, OR current Illinois Physician Assistant license
• Ability to obtain controlled substance license and DEA number
• Privileging and credentialing through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in critical care and/or vascular surgery
• First Assist Certification for APRNs
