Acute Care Nurse Practitioner - Neurology, Full-time, Days

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Neurology department, providing inpatient and ambulatory care to patients. This full-time position offers the opportunity to deliver comprehensive clinical care, collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, and contribute to quality improvement and research initiatives within a patient-first healthcare system.

Clinical Setting

You will work in our Neurology department, providing care to both inpatient and ambulatory patient populations. This role is part of Northwestern Medicine's commitment to clinical excellence and evidence-based practice.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive health assessments including patient histories and physical examinations
• Provide direct clinical care to assigned patient populations
• Prescribe and order medications, therapies, laboratory tests, imaging studies, and procedures according to clinical privileges
• Evaluate patients to determine their need for further healthcare services
• Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families regarding their health conditions and care plans
• Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
• Refer patients to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as a consultant in areas of expertise
• Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise into clinical decision-making
• Maintain a professional image and demeanor in all patient and staff interactions
• Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community
• Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, and hospital committees and task forces as appropriate
• Develop and participate in continuing education programs for staff
• Serve as a role model and preceptor to students and graduate nursing students
• Provide formal education to internal and external groups in your specialty area
• Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives relevant to your patient population
• Maintain all required certifications and continuing education for licensure and privileging

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited school or college of nursing OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
• For APRNs: Acute care certification required (inpatient experience as an NP may be considered in lieu of acute care certification)
• Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois
• Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license in the State of Illinois
• Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board
• OR: Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Illinois
• Ability to apply for controlled substance license and DEA number
• Privileged and credentialed through the Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
