Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner to join our Neurology department, providing inpatient and ambulatory care to patients. This full-time position offers the opportunity to deliver comprehensive clinical care, collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, and contribute to quality improvement and research initiatives within a patient-first healthcare system.

Clinical Setting

You will work in our Neurology department, caring for both inpatient and ambulatory patient populations. The role involves direct patient care, clinical decision-making, and consultation with other healthcare disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments including patient histories and physical examinations
  • Provide direct clinical care to assigned patient populations
  • Prescribe and order medications, therapies, laboratory tests, imaging, and procedures according to clinical privileges
  • Evaluate patients to determine their need for further healthcare
  • Document all care, education, and procedures in the medical record
  • Refer patients to other disciplines as appropriate and serve as a consultant in areas of expertise
  • Develop and provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families
  • Integrate research-based knowledge and clinical expertise in clinical decision-making
  • Participate in quality improvement and research initiatives pertinent to neurology
  • Mentor graduate students in advanced practice and patient care
  • Develop educational programs for patients, families, and staff
  • Participate in unit, departmental, divisional, or hospital committees and task forces
  • Serve as a role model and preceptor to students
  • Provide formal education to internal and external groups in your specialty
  • Maintain a professional image and serve as a patient advocate

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, days

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing OR Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • For APRNs: Acute care certification required (inpatient experience as an NP may be considered in lieu of acute care certification)
  • Current RN license in the State of Illinois
  • Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in the State of Illinois
  • Certification as an APRN by a national certifying body approved by the Illinois Department of Regulation APRN Board
  • OR: Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program with current PA license in the State of Illinois
  • Ability to obtain controlled substance license and DEA number
  • Privileged and credentialed through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Additional Requirements

  • Background check including criminal history will be conducted on newly hired team members
  • Continuing education and certifications must be maintained as required for licensure and privileging
