Job Description

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a full-time RN Team Leader for the Operating Room to lead the Ortho Spine surgical service. This 40-hour-per-week position offers the opportunity to advance patient care through clinical leadership, mentorship, and operational excellence in a dynamic perioperative environment.

Schedule

  • 40 hours per week
  • 10-hour shifts (6:50 AM - 5:20 PM, flexible)
  • Monday through Saturday with on-call coverage
  • On-call availability required within 30 minutes travel time from hospital

Responsibilities

  • Assess physical, mental, and psychological status of patients using age-appropriate knowledge within the surgical specialty
  • Plan, evaluate, and supervise care of all assigned patients within the Ortho Spine surgical specialty
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, OR resource coordinators, and outside vendors to ensure safe, cost-effective surgical interventions
  • Operate and plan perioperative patient care, including equipment, instrumentation, information systems, and preference cards
  • Coordinate care with Pre-Admission Testing (PAT), Day Surgery, and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) to ensure safe and proactive patient planning
  • Review and update preference cards for specialty physicians
  • Maintain inventory of materials and equipment, checking for expiration dates at least twice per year
  • Review procedures booked in advance and coordinate with sales representatives and OR Resource Coordinator regarding equipment, instrumentation, and implants
  • Mentor new Operating Room RNs within the specialty
  • Assist with inventory management across multiple surgical specialties as needed
  • Participate in formal and informal educational programs, in-services, and performance improvement activities
  • Synthesize patient care information to formulate appropriate nursing diagnoses
  • Provide patient and family education to the population served
  • Ensure work practice reflects hospital and department philosophy, purpose, and policies based on evidence-based best practices and AORN standards

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current RN license in Massachusetts
  • BLS certification maintained
  • 3-5 years of experience with demonstrated skill to circulate and scrub in one or more surgical specialties
  • CNOR certification within 2 years of appointment and maintained thereafter
  • Demonstrated proficiency in basic nursing process
  • Demonstrated skill in clinical services resulting in optimal safe patient care management
  • Proactive interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills based on evidence-based best practices
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities to remove barriers, solve problems, and plan service delivery
  • Evidence of continuing education: at least 20 CEUs per year (or BSN/Bachelor's degree classes may be substituted; if Bachelor's attained, 20 CEUs per evaluation year required)
  • Influenza vaccination as a condition of employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACLS certification
  • PALS certification (strongly suggested for Ortho specialty due to pediatric population)
  • Specialty certification

Compensation

  • Hourly rate: $40.64 - $85.72
  • This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Compensation is established and governed by the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
