2025-2026 School Nurse - RN (Cedar Hill)

Texas Leadership Charter Academy seeks a registered nurse to provide comprehensive health services for the Cedar Hill high school campus. In this role, you will deliver medical care to students and staff, manage student medications, conduct required health screenings, and serve as a health mentor and educator. You will work collaboratively with school administration, physicians, parents, and community partners to support student health and wellness.

Clinical Setting

You will work in a traditional office setting within a public charter school environment. The position reports to the Campus Principal and may require some travel and extended hours as needed.

Responsibilities

Nursing Services

• Provide medical care, both minor and emergency, to students and staff according to charter policy
• Act as a health mentor for students and staff
• Contact parents or guardians in cases of accident or illness, and obtain outside medical care in emergency situations when parents or guardians cannot be reached
• Implement and oversee a plan to ensure student medications are administered properly in compliance with charter policy, procedures, and applicable federal and state laws
• Issue health screenings for staff and students as required by the Texas Department of Health, Texas Education Agency, and charter policy; make referrals as necessary
• Plan and implement ongoing evaluation of the charter health program and adapt based on results

Instruction

• Assist in drafting health education curriculum and teach health education to individuals and groups
• Provide individual health counseling and instruction to students as needed

Consultation

• Serve as a health partner between the school, physicians, parents, and the community
• Assess and refer student problems with assistance from students, teachers, parents, and medical and health care professionals
• Assist with Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee meetings, crisis team activities, and school committees
• Assess and report cases of suspected child abuse
• Initiate home health care for students with health problems with district administration permission
• Maintain ongoing communication with the principal, campus director, and district administration as needed
• Participate in the School Health Advisory Council

Administration

• Manage and assess immunization records
• Ensure correct program administration by following charter procedures
• Gather, manage, and file all required reports and documents, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students
• Maintain clinic inventory through requisition of supplies and equipment
• Abide by policies established by federal and state laws, Texas Department of Health rules, Commission's Rules, and local charter policy in the health services area
• Inform the principal of potential health and safety hazards
• Abide by all Texas Leadership Public School policies and regulations

Supervision

• Oversee licensed vocational nurses and ensure their training on clinic policies according to school policy

Professional Development

• Keep current CPR, vision, and hearing screening certifications, as well as health screening certification
• Provide professional, ethical, and responsible role model behavior

Required Qualifications

• Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners
• Certification by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening
• CPR Certification
• Ability to evaluate students to identify health defects including scoliosis and acanthosis nigricans
• Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Capable of implementing policies and procedures
• Citizenship, residency, or work visa required

• Full-time position
• Salary: $52,000 to $62,000 per year
