The opportunity

Job Description

Keshequa Central School District is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct medical supervision and personal care for a medically fragile student during daily school bus transportation. This is a part-time, seasonal position that follows the school district calendar.

Clinical Setting

Keshequa Central School is a rural district covering 117 square miles across southern Livingston County, with portions extending into Allegany and Wyoming counties. The district operates an elementary campus (pre-K through 4) in Dalton and a middle school/high school campus (5-12) in Nunda. In this role, you will provide care during school bus transportation to and from school.

Schedule

This is a split-shift position:

  • Morning route: approximately 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM
  • Afternoon route: approximately 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM

Responsibilities

  • Monitor vital signs, respiratory status, and general physical condition of a medically fragile student during transit to and from school
  • Securely carry, manage, and administer daily and/or rescue prescription medications according to physician orders, state law, and district medical protocols
  • Provide immediate emergency medical intervention according to the student's Individualized Healthcare Plan (IHP) or Emergency Care Plan (ECP), including airway management or emergency medication delivery if required
  • Maintain accurate Medication Administration Records (MAR) and log all observations or events occurring during transport
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, school nursing staff, bus drivers, and special education teams regarding student health status

Required Qualifications

  • Active, unencumbered license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of New York
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR/AED for Healthcare Providers certification
  • Pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen
  • Clearance under New York State Education Department Fingerprint and Criminal History Background Check
  • Completion of New York State 3-Hour School Bus Attendant Physical Performance Test and Safety Training, or ability to complete upon hire
  • Must be at least 19 years of age

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum one year of pediatric, home health, or special education nursing experience
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • Familiarity with caring for students with complex physical, neurological, or respiratory needs
