1.0 FTE School Nurse - RN - Hopi ES

This is a full-time school nurse position serving Hopi Elementary School. As a registered professional nurse, you will lead the school community in overseeing school health policies and programs, providing expertise in school health services and health education promotion. You will use clinical judgment to provide direct health care to students and staff, perform health screenings, coordinate referrals to healthcare providers, and serve as a liaison between school personnel, families, community members, and healthcare providers to advocate for health care and a healthy school environment.

Responsibilities

• Establish and maintain a comprehensive school health program
• Collect information about the health and developmental status of students
• Develop nursing care plans with specific goals and interventions tailored to individual student needs
• Maintain nursing care that promotes, maintains, or restores health and prevents illness
• Document nursing care via computer program
• Gather statistics for district and state records
• Ensure compliance with Arizona State Immunization requirements for all students throughout the school year
• Participate in the Medicaid in Public Schools (MIPS) program as defined by district policies
• Conduct annual vision and hearing screening and referral as mandated by the Arizona Department of Health Services
• Serve as Employee Health Nurse for staff injuries and illness
• Collaborate with other health care professionals both within and outside the school district
• Assist students, families, and groups to achieve optimal levels of wellness through health education
• Assess, plan, and implement school health services in collaboration with other school and district staff
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Required Qualifications

• Current Arizona State Registered Nurse License
• Current CPR Certification
• Valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
• Knowledge of federal and state mandates relating to School Health Services and Practices
• Ability to apply appropriate nursing theory as basis for decision making in school nursing practice
• Adherence to School Nurse policies and practice as dictated by state and district guidelines

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Arizona School Nurse Certification or National School Nurse Certification

Physical Requirements

Positions in this class typically require reaching, standing, walking, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Physical requirements may include lifting, assisted lifting and moving of school-age children, stooping, bending, reaching, twisting, and standing or sitting for extended periods as a normal part of the job.

Employment Status

This is a 1.0 FTE Exempt (RN) position. Return to work retirees will have an hourly rate approximately 9% lower than listed without falling below minimum wage.
